Hugh-Jones Studio is a mother-and-daughter garden design practice, bringing together over 25 years of experience. Working together, Shelley and Grace bring different perspectives and generations of experience to the design process, united by a shared approach to creating gardens that feel personal, enduring and deeply connected to their setting.

Shelley trained in garden design at the English Gardening School in 2002 following an MA in Textiles from the Royal College of Art and a successful career in fashion knitwear. Her background continues to inform her instinctive approach to colour, texture and materiality, alongside more than two decades of experience designing residential and commercial landscapes.

Grace also came to garden design from fashion, having worked as a knitwear designer before training at the London College of Garden Design. She graduated with Distinction and was shortlisted for the Judges’ Prize, before receiving the Society of Garden and Landscape Designers’ 2026 Student Design Award for Large Domestic Garden.

Together, they share a love of strong, considered design softened by abundant, naturalistic planting. Their work balances structure with atmosphere, responding closely to the architecture, character and context of each site. Every garden is approached as an individual collaboration - designed with care, curiosity and an appreciation of how landscapes evolve through the seasons.
